Anchored in High Point and expanding across Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and surrounding communities, we serve the dynamic region of the Piedmont Triad — home to more than 1.7 million people and limitless potential.
Why the Triad matters for young people
This region offers a mix of city life and suburban-town settings, giving us many places to meet young people where they live, learn, and connect.
It is growing and changing. For example, the Greensboro–High Point metro area had a population of roughly 780,000 in 2023, with incomes and educational outcomes shifting accordingly.
Youth in the Triad are more diverse than previous generations. Nearly 44% of young people identify as people of color, compared to only 17% of older residents.
Many children and families face real barriers: from school readiness and math proficiency to access to after-school opportunities. For example, only about 26% of 3rd- to 8th-graders in the Triad region met the state’s college- and career-readiness mark in reading in 2024.

Child poverty remains high in High Point (21.2%), Greensboro (23.0%), and Winston-Salem (32.7%), with some neighborhoods exceeding 35%.
20-30% chronic absenteeism
Many local schools report absenteeism at levels that put long-term academic and economic mobility at risk.
16% of teens have considered suicide; 8% have attempted.
10% rise in juvenile arrests
More than half involve repeat offenders, signaling unmet needs among older youth and teens.

How We Show Up.
In this region, we don’t just add programs — we build community. Our approach includes:
- Operating Club sites in neighborhoods where access to safe, enriching out-of-school time is limited.
- Partnering with schools, local governments, and advocates across the Triad to align around youth success.
- Adapting to local strengths and needs, whether that’s after-school STEM, summer leadership, sports and recreation, or mentoring relationships.
