Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point Names Dr. William D. Gibson as Chief Executive Officer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point Names Dr. William D. Gibson as Chief Executive Officer

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point (BGCGHP) announces today that the Board of Directors has unanimously named Dr. William D. Gibson as the next Chief Executive Officer, effective June 2nd, 2025. BGCGHP conducted its search process with the assistance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CEO Search Team.

Dr. William D. Gibson is a nationally recognized executive, author, and social impact strategist with over 35 years of experience in cross-sector leadership.  A proud product of the Boys Club, his early experiences as a young member helped shape a lifelong commitment to learning, service, equity, and the power of belonging.  That foundation continues to guide his leadership and purpose today.

Dr. Gibson has led transformational work across the nonprofit, philanthropic, and educational sectors, most recently serving as President and CEO of Helping Education, a nonprofit organization advancing literacy and educational equity.  He previously spent nearly nine years based in the Pacific Northwest, with his headquarters in Seattle, where he led strategic initiatives across urban and rural communities, focusing on youth development, systems innovation, and public-private collaboration.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and first-generation college graduate, Dr. Gibson has also served clients and communities as a communications entrepreneur, regional faith leader, and executive advisor.  He is the author of Sustainable Engagement: Strategic Planning for Positive Social Change (2022) and The Box: How the Gift of Adversity Shapes Growth, Innovation, and Transformation (forthcoming, June 2025), which explores how adversity can drive personal, organizational, and cultural breakthroughs.

Dr. Gibson’s leadership is rooted in empathy, excellence, and equity.  He brings a deep commitment to community engagement, board partnership, staff development, and building sustainable models for long-term impact.  From boardrooms to classrooms, and from corporate offices to Clubhouses, he is driven by one question: How do we unlock the full potential in others—and ourselves?

For William, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point opportunity is an honor:

“Walking into the Boys Club as a kid changed my life. It gave me a place to belong, mentors who believed in me, and the confidence to dream. This opportunity is deeply personal. It’s not just about leading an organization—it’s about returning to the very Movement that helped shape me. I’m honored to pay it forward and help ensure that every young person who walks through our doors feels seen, supported, and inspired to build a future they didn’t think was possible.”

He holds a doctorate in semiotics and futures studies from George Fox University in Portland, OR, with a focus on social and technological advancements.  He also has a Master’s degree from Duke University, with a focus on social entrepreneurship, and an executive certificate of specialization in entrepreneurship and innovation from Harvard Business School.  He now calls Jamestown, NC, home, but no matter where he serves, the values and vision that began with the Boys & Girls Club remain at the heart of his leadership.

As CEO, William’s responsibilities include leading the organization’s strategic direction, overseeing operations, financials, programming, brand reputation, talent recruitment, resource development, and stakeholder relationships. The CEO also serves as the organization’s primary ambassador and lead communicator.  William, in partnership with his team, will oversee the organization’s clubs. The CEO reports to BGCGHP’s Board Chair.
