Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF THE GREATER TRIAD ANNOUNCED
High Point Legacy Powers Bold Regional Expansion Across Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Surrounding Communities

High Point, N.C.—September 18, 2025—The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point today announced a new name—Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad—and a bold regional expansion that will bring high-impact youth development to more young people across High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and surrounding communities. This strategic move, undertaken in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), follows the conclusion of BGCA’s decades-long collaboration with The Salvation Army on January 1, 2025, and ensures that Clubs across the Triad are reestablished, strengthened, and positioned for long-term growth.

The new name honors nearly three decades of proven impact rooted in High Point and Asheboro while signaling a unified strategy to scale programs, partnerships, and outcomes across the Triad. Building on a strong foundation of Club sites and school-based collaborations, the organization will expand access to evidence-based academic supports, whole-child wellness, and athletics-as-a-catalyst programming that helps kids thrive in school and in life.

“High Point is our heritage and our heartbeat,” said Dr. William D. Gibson, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad. “We’re elevating that legacy—uniting Clubs, schools, and community partners across the Triad—to help more young people read on grade level, succeed in math and STEM, develop the life skills to lead, and discover the confidence that comes from competing and collaborating as a team. This name change reflects who we’ve always been at our core and who we are becoming together.”

“This is a celebration of our past and a commitment to our future,” said Leslie Bates, Chair of the Board. “High Point built something special—places where kids feel safe, known, and inspired. Today we’re scaling that promise across the Triad with disciplined governance, strong partnerships, and a relentless focus on measurable results. We’re grateful to our supporters and excited to welcome new partners as we grow.”

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad embody the very best of what our national Movement stands for,” said Lorraine Orr, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Rooted in a proud High Point and Asheboro legacy and now expanding across Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and beyond, this initiative reflects the spirit of Future Ready—Better, Bigger, Bolder. It’s about meeting kids where they are, creating equitable opportunities, and ensuring that every young person has the chance to thrive.”

“I grew up at the Carson Stout Club, and today my own sons are thriving at the Congdon Hub for Great Futures,” said Raven Jefferson, First Lady of High Point, and Board Member, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad. “For me, this is full circle. The Boys & Girls Clubs shaped my life, and now they’re shaping the next generation in my family. Expanding across the Triad means thousands more kids will get the same chance I did—to be safe, to dream big, and to build a brighter future.”

Triad Expansion Highlights:

  • Unified regional identity: Transitioning from Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad to reflect a broader footprint and shared vision.
  • Site growth: Strategic expansion of Clubs and shared-space sites in collaboration with schools and community partners across High Point, Asheboro, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and surrounding communities.
  • Program scale: Doubling down on literacy and math supports, STEM pathways, teen leadership, workforce readiness, and athletics that reinforce academic excellence.
  • Partnerships: Deepening coordination with school districts, local governments, and regional partners to align with North Carolina academic priorities and accelerate student achievement.

As the organization grows, it will continue to maintain its longstanding commitment to providing accessible, high-quality programming for young people who need it most, while diversifying its funding to ensure long-term sustainability and effective stewardship.

Call to Partners:

Community leaders, businesses, and philanthropic partners are invited to join the movement—through investments, program partnerships, and volunteer engagement—so that every child in the Greater Triad has a clear path to success.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point was established as its own 501 (c) (3) in July 1998 after separating from the Salvation Army. In 2004, the Club expanded to include the Asheboro territory. For nearly three decades, the Club has stood as a cornerstone of hope and opportunity—serving thousands of young people across multiple Club sites in High Point and Asheboro with safe spaces, caring mentors, and life-changing programs. Rooted in a city known for its resilience and strong community identity, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point have built a proud legacy of impact: advancing academic success, promoting healthy lifestyles, and shaping generations of leaders. This history is not simply background—it is a solid foundation on which the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad rises. Guided by High Point’s enduring spirit and proven track record of innovation, we are poised to lead a regional transformation that unites communities, scales programs, and builds a lasting legacy of opportunity across the Triad.

BGCA’s national collaboration with The Salvation Army, which began in 1960, concluded on January 1, 2025. Founded in 1860 as the Boys Club of America and renamed the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 1990, the organization proudly marks 165 years of service this year.
